With This Goes That

I could not help but be entertained by the limited understanding of the child. He was riding down the sidewalk and making a bit of a nuisance of himself to the pedestrians walking on the side walk. Several were forced to step off in order to keep from being run over by the speedy young man on his bicycle. It was an interesting thing to watch from a distance.

Finally he came close to me and a man grabbed hold of his handle bars as he went by, stopping the bicycle and causing the young speed demon to come to an abrupt halt. The boy did not like the fact that he had been halted by a gentleman more than three times his age.

“Why did you do that? Mister”

“Because this is a sidewalk for people to walk on.” Replied the man.

“Well, this is a free country and I can do anything I want to, argued the boy.”

“Yes it is a free country,” replied the man, “but your freedom ends where my rights begin. I have a right to walk on this sidewalk without being run over by you.”

The boy ran away, mumbling unintelligible things under his breath.

Freedom and responsibility go together. We live our lives in the tension between what we are free to do over against what our morals call us to do. Our responsibility is even greater than our freedom.

Stephen

UMYF - Yak from the Shack

CHECK OUT OUR BLOG!
www.cunitedmyouth.blogspot.com

The Youth Lock-In is this Friday, the 26th. We will meet at the church at 6:00, and take the bus to Don & Joyce Hall’s house for swimming, games, and bonfire before returning to the church for the rest of the night. Students should be picked-up by 9am Saturday from the Yak Shak.

The Youth Mission team is leaving for Myrtle Beach Monday the 29th, at 9am. Youth should arrive a few minutes early, so that we can be hitting the road promptly at 9. If you are a breakfast person, you should already have eaten so that we can drive until lunch-time. Youth can also bring a dvd or two for the ride if they like.

Announcements

Attention!

The Seekers Sunday School class room will be expanding due to tremendous growth in attendance! The Trustees of the Church have approved that on Saturday, July 18, the wall between the class room and the closet will be knocked out... If anyone has anything in the closet they would like to lay claim to please take it before the 18th. Anything left in the closet will be thrown out or given to Goodwill. Thank you for your attention to this matter. The Seekers class gives God the glory for our growth.

Methodists on A Mission

The United Methodist Men have assisted 5 or 6 women over the past several weeks with their home repairs and improvements. We are ready and willing to help more single mothers/women and the elderly members of our church. If you are interested in being one of our “customers”, please contact the office or email to cvilleumc@windstream.net. A representative(s) of our team will come to your home to evaluate the work that needs to be done and then itemize the materials you will need to purchase.

From the Choir

The choir will be on hiatus for the month of July. There will be no choir practice until August 12th.
No choir practice this Wednesday because of VBS.

Wednesday Suppers

We will be taking a break in the month of July. There will be no Wednesday Fellowship Suppers. We’ll be back in August, so join us each Wednesday for great food and fellowship!

We Need Ushers!

If you would like to volunteer your time one Sunday a month, we need you. Anyone, any age, any gender, even couples!… we are especially needing ushers for the 8:30 am service. Please contact J.O. Miller at or the church office.

A Sincere Thank You

Thank you for all the thoughts, cards and prayers while I was in the hospital at Emory for open heart surgery, but most importantly I thank you for the love. Thank you to Ann Stafford for all the meals she brought to us.
